The BEST Institute Business Innovation and Simulation (BIS) Laboratory is a unique environment that brings together faculty and students from the Rutgers University Business School, the School of Engineering, and the School of Pharmacy. Current projects focus on the commercialization of Rutgers University Intellectual Property (IP) in the areas of advanced materials, biomedical engineering, clean technology, green technology, information technology, life sciences, and pharmaceuticals.
Located in the CoRE Building on Rutgers University's Busch Campus, the BEST BIS Lab is an efficient and cost effective environment for commercializing IP. Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on business activities, both curricular and extracurricular, via BEST Institute and its affiliated companies. In effect, BEST will enable students to train in apprenticeships spanning th
e gamut of business activities. Their education will encompass the initial stages of due diligence, through business plan creation, modification and day-to-day management, culminating in the sale of small/mid size companies. In particular, business students will gain exposure to science and evolving technologies; while engineering and science students will gain practical experience in business practices, such as finance, marketing, and advertising in the new global economy.
Rutgers University business, science and engineering students will be employed at the BEST Institute and affiliated companies, thereby providing students with hands-on entrepreneurial training. Conversely, the BEST Institute affiliated companies will gain access to a valuable labor pool with permanent job offers made to properly vetted students. Rutgers University students will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and preliminary experience to form their own companies after graduating from BEST Institute affiliated programs. Certainly, the experience gained will provide a competitive advantage to Rutgers University undergraduate and graduate students from Business, Engineering, and Pharmacy seeking cutting edge employment opportunities.
